Moderator Guide

This page is for r/Roses wiki moderators reviewing disease alarms, uploaded images, source quality, user reports, and professional contributor roles.

Disease and RRD moderation

  • Do not let red new growth alone become an RRD diagnosis.
  • Ask for whole-plant photos and close-ups before escalating.
  • Label uncertain cases as suspicious, possible, or needs extension/lab review rather than confirmed.
  • Use the RRD compare tool for education, not as a formal diagnosis.
  • Encourage local extension or diagnostic lab review when removal, pesticide use, or high-value plants are involved.

Source quality

  • Best sources: university extension, UC IPM, government agencies, diagnostic labs, official trial programmes, plant patents, and peer-reviewed research.
  • Acceptable with context: rose societies, public gardens, breeder notes, nursery pages, and community grow reports.
  • Avoid unsupported absolutes, copied pesticide rates, AI-generated claims without sources, and medical-style certainty for plant diagnosis.

Professional roles

Professional titles such as Botanist, Rosarian, Master Gardener, Plant Pathologist, Extension Agent, or Nursery Professional should be based on credentials the mod team can document. Use expert notes internally and keep public badges concise.

Content decisions

  • Keep community examples, but mark anecdotal observations clearly.
  • When a page has conflicting advice, explain region and rose class differences.
  • Preserve BackroomsHost installer operations, but keep public wiki wording specific to r/Roses.
