ADR Roses

ADR is the German General Test for New Roses. It is one of the most useful European sources for modern rose garden value and resistance because candidate roses are tested over multiple years in independent test gardens.

What ADR supports

  • ADR evaluates garden value, hardiness, flower effect, and leaf health.
  • The Bundessortenamt coordinates ADR tests, and the official ADR list tracks current awarded varieties.
  • ADR evidence is strong for German and similar European trial contexts.
  • A cultivar can be excellent without ADR, and an ADR rose still needs the right site, spacing, and care.

How to use ADR on this wiki

  • Use ADR to support disease-resistance and garden-value claims for modern European cultivars.
  • Check whether the ADR award is current before calling a rose an ADR rose.
  • Pair ADR with RHS, local EU/member-state guidance, and grower tips for climate-specific caveats.

Use controls lawfully: Current local product label/register wins for any pesticide, fertiliser, or soil amendment use.
